What may go in the parish note

One weekly letter goes to members. A parish may add a short note for people who have linked that parish. The parish desk is being prepared. These rules are published now, so a parish can write to them before the desk opens.

being prepared
  1. 01

    No fundraising

Do not ask for money, donations, pledges, or a collection. A parish event may be named. A request to give is not allowed.

  2. 02

    No political or partisan content

Do not endorse a candidate, a party, or a vote. The note stays with the life of the parish.

  3. 03

    Nothing contrary to Catholic teaching

The note should not contradict the teaching of the Catholic Church.

  4. 04

    No personal information

Do not name a private person, a household, or a child. Do not include an address, a phone number, or any other private detail, especially about a minor.

  5. 05

Links that open, and dates still ahead

A link must open. A date must be a real date, and an event date must not already have passed.

When a note is due

The note for a Sunday issue is due the Thursday before, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time (America/New_York). After that moment the note can still be saved, but it cannot be sent in for that Sunday.

How a note is read

On submit, the note is read against these rules. If it does not fit, it comes back with the reason and a suggested fix. If the reading is uncertain, a person at My Catholic Guide decides. A note appears in the letter only after it is published. If nothing is published for that week, the parish section is left out. There is no empty box.
