Mary, Mother of the Church
Full of grace, mother of the Redeemer and of the redeemed.
Mary’s unique role flows from her fiat and from being mother of Jesus, true God and true man. Catholic doctrine—Immaculate Conception, perpetual virginity, Assumption—safeguards her place in God’s plan.

Mary is Mother of God because her Son is a divine person. This title, defined at Ephesus, protects the unity of Christ’s person.
