The papacy and infallibility
Peter’s successor shepherds unity; infallibility is narrowly defined.
The Pope is bishop of Rome and pastor of the universal Church. Infallibility does not mean impeccability or inspiration in every utterance; it concerns definitive teaching under strict conditions.
Keys and succession
Christ gave Peter a role among the apostles that continues in his successors. The college of bishops, with and under the Pope, teaches authoritatively.
