The Mass, in plain terms

Word, Eucharist, and sending—Christ’s one sacrifice made present.

The Mass is the source and summit of Catholic life. It is not a repeat of Calvary but its memorial made sacramentally present, gathering the Church to hear the Word and share the Lord’s body and blood.

Liturgy of the Word

Readings, psalm, Gospel, and homily feed the Church on Scripture. Christ speaks to his people; the response of faith prepares hearts for the altar.

Liturgy of the Eucharist

Bread and wine become Christ’s body and blood. The Church offers thanks, recalls the passion, and receives communion—union with Christ and with one another.

The dismissal

“Go forth” sends baptized people to live what they have received. Mass ends in mission, not merely departure.
