Faith in an ordinary workplace

Integrity, excellence, and courage without preachiness.

Most Catholics evangelize primarily by competence, kindness, and honesty at work. The Church’s social doctrine informs conscience in contracts, speech, and care for subordinates.

Truth in small things

Expense reports, time clocks, and gossip corridors test character. Small lies erode trust in Christ’s name.

Advocacy prudently

Speaking up for a coworker or ethical policy may cost something. Prudence chooses timing and tone; courage acts when silence would cooperate with wrong.

Sabbath respect

Where possible, guard Sunday rest even against workplace pressure; seek legal and pastoral counsel when conflicts arise.

Try this week

  1. This month, fix one corner where you have been cutting ethical corners.
  2. Compliment a colleague’s work sincerely once a week.
  3. If Sunday work is required, discuss a compensatory rest pattern in advance.
