A missionary bishop from Prague who died a martyr trying to convert the pagan Prussians and became patron of three nations.
Adalbert (956-997), born Vojtěch, was Bishop of Prague who faced opposition for his reforms. He fled to monasteries twice before becoming a missionary bishop. He died preaching to the Prussians, struck by spears after ignoring their warnings to leave their territory.
