The pope who transformed the Pantheon into a Christian church dedicated to all martyrs.
Boniface IV (died 615) served as Pope from 608-615. His most famous act was converting the Roman Pantheon into the Church of Santa Maria ad Martyres in 609, dedicating it to the Virgin Mary and all martyrs. He also worked to strengthen ties between Rome and the Irish Church. His pontificate helped establish Christian worship in formerly pagan spaces.
