Irish monk who brought Christianity to Switzerland, founding monasteries and converting the Alemanni people.
Gall was an Irish missionary monk (c. 550-645) who accompanied Saint Columban to Europe. When Columban was exiled from Burgundy, Gall remained in Switzerland due to illness and established a hermitage that became the famous Abbey of St. Gallen. He spent 40 years evangelizing the Alemanni tribes and building Christian communities.
