Pope who successfully ended the Acacian Schism and restored unity between East and West.
Hormisdas became Pope in 514 and served until 523 (450-523). His greatest achievement was healing the Acacian Schism that had divided Eastern and Western churches for 35 years. He negotiated skillfully with Byzantine Emperor Justin I to restore communion. He died having strengthened papal authority and church unity.
