French nun who founded the Little Sisters of the Poor to care for elderly people.
Jeanne Jugan founded the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1839 to serve elderly poor people (1792-1879). She began by taking elderly women into her own home, then organized other women to join the mission. Despite facing internal opposition, her congregation spread worldwide. She was canonized in 2009 for her revolutionary care of the elderly.
