Welsh Franciscan priest martyred in England for celebrating Mass during Elizabethan persecution.
John Jones was a Welsh Franciscan who was executed at Southwark in 1598 (1559-1598). He studied for the priesthood at Douai and Rome before returning to England as a missionary. Captured while celebrating Mass, he was tortured and condemned to death. He was canonized as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
