Italian educator who founded schools for girls and established the Maestre Pie Filippini congregation.
Lucy Filippini dedicated her life to educating poor girls in 18th century Italy (1672-1732). She co-founded the Institute of Maestre Pie with Cardinal Barbarigo. Her schools provided both religious and practical education to girls who otherwise had no opportunities. She personally trained teachers and established over 40 schools. Canonized in 1930.
