Mexican Cristero War martyr who died defending religious freedom during government persecution of the Church.
Sabas Reyes Salazar was a Mexican layman (1883-1927) martyred during the Cristero War. A member of the Catholic Association of Mexican Youth, he was arrested for defending religious liberty. When ordered to renounce his faith or die, he chose martyrdom, shouting "Long live Christ the King!" before his execution.
