St. Peter

A Galilean fisherman chosen by Christ to lead His Church, Peter became the rock on which Catholicism was built.
He left his nets on the Sea of Galilee when Jesus called him, and everything changed. Peter spoke too fast, acted before thinking, and once denied knowing Christ three times in a single night. But Jesus still handed him the keys. He led the early Church through its most fragile years, preaching to Jews and Gentiles alike, settling disputes that could have torn the community apart. Tradition holds he was crucified upside down in Rome under Nero, insisting he was unworthy to die the same way as his Lord.
From Fisherman to Foundation
Peter was impulsive, loyal, and deeply human. He walked on water and then sank. He swore he'd never abandon Jesus and then did exactly that. What makes his story matter is that Christ chose him anyway. The early Church needed someone who understood weakness, and Peter knew his own better than anyone.
Why He Matters for OCIA
Every person entering the Church walks through a door Peter opened. His story is a reminder that the Church wasn't founded on perfection. It was founded on a flawed man who kept saying yes.
