Born around 945, Abbo became abbot of Fleury (994-1004) during a time of monastic reform. A gifted mathematician, astronomer, and theologian, he defended papal authority and monastic independence against secular interference. He died in 1004 while mediating disputes in Gascony. His writings on theology and computus advanced medieval scholarship.
