A brilliant scholar who left worldly success to found the contemplative Carthusian order in the wilderness.
Bruno (1030-1101) was a renowned teacher at Reims Cathedral school who abandoned his career to seek God in solitude. He founded the Grande Chartreuse monastery in 1084, establishing the Carthusian order dedicated to prayer, silence, and contemplation. Though called to serve as papal advisor, he returned to monastic life. His order remains one of the most austere in the Church.
