Gregory of Narek (950-1003) was an Armenian Apostolic monk, mystical poet, and theologian who lived at the monastery of Narek. His masterpiece, the Book of Lamentations, contains 95 prayer-poems expressing deep repentance and mystical union with God. His writings show profound psychological insight into the human condition and the soul love for God. He was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Francis in 2015, the first Armenian to receive this honor. His prayers continue to inspire Christians across denominational lines.
