Archbishop of Arles who courageously defended church independence against papal and imperial interference.
Hilary became Archbishop of Arles in 429 and served until his death (403-449). He was a strong leader who defended his metropolitan rights against both Pope Leo I and secular authorities. Known for his pastoral zeal and administrative skills. He died peacefully despite facing ecclesiastical conflicts throughout his tenure.
