Young Sicilian virgin martyr who died defending her purity, patron saint of those with eye problems.
Lucy was a young Christian woman from Syracuse (283-304) who was martyred during Diocletian persecution. According to tradition, she consecrated her virginity to God and distributed her dowry to the poor. When threatened with prostitution, she miraculously became immovable. She was tortured and killed for her faith.
