Sixteenth-century Greek Orthodox priest martyred by Ottoman authorities for his Christian faith.
Markos Markoulis was a Greek Orthodox priest who served under Ottoman rule in the 16th century. He continued his priestly duties despite increasing pressure from Ottoman authorities. When ordered to convert to Islam, he refused and proclaimed his Christian faith. He was executed for his refusal to deny Christ. Venerated as a New Martyr.
