Third-century Christian who refused military service and was martyred for his conscientious objection.
Maximilian of Tebessa was a 21-year-old Christian who refused to serve in the Roman army (274-295). When brought for military enrollment, he declared he could not serve as a soldier because he was a Christian. Despite pleas from his father and threats from officials, he remained steadfast. He was executed for his refusal, becoming a martyr for conscience.
