Augustinian friar known for his mystical gifts and devotion to the souls in purgatory.
Nicholas of Tolentino was an Augustinian friar (1245-1305). He experienced mystical visions and was known for his devotion to the souls in purgatory. He regularly offered Mass for the dead and practiced severe penances. Many miracles were attributed to his intercession during his lifetime. He died at Tolentino and was canonized in 1446.
