Stephen the Hymnographer was a Byzantine monk (725-794) who composed numerous liturgical hymns during the iconoclastic period. Despite facing persecution and exile for defending icons, he continued writing sacred poetry. His compositions enriched Eastern Christian worship and helped preserve Orthodox theology through turbulent times.
