A desert hermit who founded one of Egypt greatest monasteries and influenced thousands of monks through his wisdom.
Apollo (died 395) left his worldly pursuits to become a hermit in the Egyptian desert. His reputation for holiness drew so many followers that he founded a monastery near Hermopolis with over 500 monks, becoming a father figure to the desert monastic movement.
